Stanley Bull is an Oakland
California native. He began singing at the age of 12. Stanley is a
singer, songwriter and musician who has studied voice with the late
Phil Reeder, Bill "The Jazz Professor" Bell, and John Patton Jr.
(The Color Purple). He has traveled to New Orleans and Mexico City
with the world renowned Castleers of Castlemont High
School.
In the summers of 1976 & 1977, Stanley
participated in the Young Musicians Program at U.C. Berkeley under
the direction of Michael Senturia, where he studied along side and
under the tutelage of such bay area artists as Daryl Coley, Rodney
Franklin, Fred "Ready Freddie" Washington and Clayton "Claytoven"
Richardson.
In 1989, he produced 2 songs for a
recording project by the St. Andrew Missionary Baptist Church’s
album entitled "God Calls For Repentance". It is there that he was
blessed by the Lord to learn to play the bass guitar and given the
opportunity by the pastor, Dr. Robeth Lacy, to hone this skill with
the choir.
He has also been featured vocalist as well
as bassist and drummer with Aladdin's Lads and Lasses, a unique
belly dancing troupe which blends Scottish song and bellydancing
with Arabic rhythms and bagpipes.
More recently, Stanley has vocally
performed with Rev. Al Green; The Academy Chorus under the direction
of Richard Herron; gospel recording artist Ricky Dillard, Alfreda
Mitchell & Success. He has also performed with Reverend James
Bolton, Reverend Hezekiah Walker and Verlin Sandles.
Stanley currently serves as musical
director with gospel recording artists CMV. He also sings and plays
bass at the First African Methodist Episcopal
Church in Oakland, California where
the minister of music is Jeffrey Williams and under the
pastorate of Dr. Harold R. Mayberry.
He released two singles
entitled "All These
Blessin's" (1999) and "Questions" (2003)
